Before you start: no links

You can't paste a TikTok link here. We transcribe files you upload. Use this for your own videos, or for videos you have permission to use. Don't download other people's content to reuse it without asking, and follow TikTok's terms.

How to do it

  1. Get the video as a file. For your own video, open it in TikTok, tap Share, then Save video (if downloads are on for that video). If saving is off, screen-record it with sound on your phone.
  2. Drop the file above (MP4 and MOV work), or choose it from your camera roll.
  3. Wait a few minutes with the tab open.
  4. Copy the text, or download TXT, SRT or VTT.

No sign-up is needed for one file up to 30 minutes.

Why people do this

  • Write captions or a blog post from a video you made.
  • Turn a script you spoke into text you can edit.
  • Make an SRT file for a longer version of the video. See subtitles.
  • Keep a searchable copy of what you said.

Good to know

  • It transcribes the speech. Music, on-screen text and sounds are not described.
  • A screen recording may include background audio or notification sounds; trim them if you can.
  • The upload transcribes English; no translation.
  • Music over speech lowers the quality, as it does for any transcriber.
  • Check names, slang and hashtags in the result.

For clips from other formats, see mp4 to text and transcribe an Instagram video.

What it costs

Nothing is for sale right now. Every account that signs in has Pro free until January, with up to 10 hours of transcription a month and no card. Without an account, the homepage transcribes one file up to 30 minutes.

Privacy

Audio goes to ElevenLabs in the US only to be transcribed. Free homepage transcripts aren't stored; they stay in your tab.

FAQ

Can I paste a TikTok URL? No. Save the video first.

Does it add captions to the video? No. You get the text or a subtitle file. Burn them in with a video editor.

Can I keep the transcript? Import the file into a note in My notes and it stays with the recording.
