How to transcribe a WAV file
- Drop the file above or choose it from your device.
- Wait a few minutes. Keep the tab open. Long files are split by the browser and uploaded once.
- Copy the text, or download TXT, SRT or VTT.
You don't need to compress it to MP3 first. One file up to 30 minutes needs no sign-up.
Why WAV files
WAV is what many field recorders, studio setups, call recorders and professional microphones save. It is uncompressed, so files get big: an hour can be hundreds of megabytes. We take files up to 1 GB. If a recording is bigger, convert it to MP3 or M4A, which shrinks it a lot without hurting speech much.
What you get
Text with punctuation, speaker labels (Speaker 1, Speaker 2) and timing. You can copy the text or download TXT, SRT or VTT. There is no translation.
To hear any sentence again by tapping it, search and ask AI, import the file into a note in My notes. See also interview transcription.
Other formats
MP3 (mp3 to text), M4A (m4a to text), OGG, FLAC, AAC, WebM, MP4 (mp4 to text) and MOV. Convert MKV, AVI, WMA, AMR and .opus files to MP3 first.
What it costs
Nothing is for sale right now. Every account that signs in has Pro free until January, with up to 10 hours of transcription a month and no card.
Privacy
Audio goes to ElevenLabs in the US only to be transcribed. Free homepage transcripts aren't stored, only shown in your tab.
FAQ
Does WAV give better text than MP3? Clean recording matters more than the format. A close microphone in a quiet room beats a bigger file.
What languages? The upload on this page transcribes English. In My notes you can set the recording language in Settings (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and eight Central European languages).
Can it handle stereo or two-channel calls? It transcribes the audio and labels speakers, but crosstalk is hard for any transcriber. Check the text.
