From iPhone to text

  1. In Voice Memos, tap the recording, then the ... button, then Share.
  2. Choose Save to Files, AirDrop to your Mac, or email it to yourself. (Share straight into the browser if your phone offers it.)
  3. Open this page and drop the file above, or choose it from Files.
  4. Wait a few minutes with the tab open, then copy the text or download TXT, SRT or VTT.

From a Mac

Open Voice Memos on your Mac, select the recording and use the Share button, or drag it to your desktop. Then drop the file above.

Your memo is an M4A file, which we take as it is. More on that in m4a to text. No account is needed for one file up to 30 minutes.

What about Apple's own transcripts?

Newer versions of iOS and macOS can show a transcript in Voice Memos on some devices and in some languages. If yours does, it is quick for a short memo. Check Apple's support page for what your device and language support. You might still use this page when you want:

  • Speaker labels for a conversation, not just one voice.
  • Timing and SRT or VTT files.
  • A transcript you can search, tap to play and ask AI about, in a note in My notes.
  • The text on a computer, outside the Apple ecosystem, or on Android or Windows.

Record straight into a note

You can skip the export. In My notes, press Record in a note (browser, computer or phone) and the transcript appears under the recording. See the voice recorder. Native iPhone and Mac apps are coming soon.

What it costs

Nothing is for sale right now. Every account that signs in has Pro free until January, with up to 10 hours of transcription a month and no card.

Privacy

Audio goes to ElevenLabs in the US only to be transcribed. Free homepage transcripts aren't stored; they stay in your tab.
